LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The City of Lafayette wants to make it easier to redevelop abandoned properties.

The city’s Redevelopment Commission passed a proposal to expand a Tax Increment Finance district. The proposed expansion would bring in the campus of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Central Hospital, the Market Square area and other developments north of State Road 26.

Economic Development Director Dennis Carson said the proposal will allow the city to make redevelopment opportunities easier.

“As we look to the future, specifically with the St. Elizabeth campus as they make changes to that campus and as they move out to different areas, we fill like we have redevelopment opportunities to there — much like with the Home Hospital sight, which they vacated,” said Carson.

The proposal awaits further approval.

Carson said residents will not see an increase in taxes.
