TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — One man is dead after a crash on I-65 Thursday afternoon.
According to Indiana State Police, an SUV was traveling north on I-65 at mile marker 182, about four miles north of the State Road 43 exit. The driver pulled in front of a semi, then headed to the right off the roadway. The semi then moved to the left lane to avoid the SUV. The SUV then cut from the right to left lane, hitting the back side of the semi trailer. The trailer then ran over the front of the SUV.
The driver of the semi was not injured in the crash but the driver of the SUV was extricated and taken to IU Health Arnett. He was later pronounced dead. Police say alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash with the driver testing at .29 B.A.C. The driver’s name has not been released.
Both northbound lanes are now open after being closed for two and a half hours as emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene.
