TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Labor Day weekend is here and that means it’s time to start considering a flu shot.

Officials with the Centers for Disease Control said flu season usually begins in October. Everyone six months of age and older are encouraged to get the flu shot.

CustomPlus Pharmacist Ben Rochwal said children and the elderly are most at risk of catching the flu. This year, he said a high dose option is available for those 65 and older.

“It’s four times the amount of drug and that will help people over 65,” Rochwal said. “They say, it will help the immunity last longer. So, if you get it now, you have a better chance of it lasting into March and April.”

Rochwal said if you don’t like shots, a nasal spray option is also available. He recommends everyone get a vaccination before October.
