ROSSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Rossville couple whose home was damaged in last week’s rains has been told their claim has been denied by their insurance company.

Keith Gephart showed News 18 the damage Wednesday when pressure from rainwater collapsed one wall and damaged two foundation walls. He said he was informed by Erie Insurance Friday that his policy doesn’t cover damage from rainwater.

He says he’s dumbfounded his policy somehow still paid a company who did some cleanup work in the aftermath.

“I’ve cried a lot this afternoon,” said Gephart. “We’re going to put it in the good Lord’s hands that we can come up with the money to fix the property and get back in our house quickly as possible.”

Gephart who said he’s a disabled American veteran said his bank denied him funding for repairs because his current loan is too close to the value of the home. He’s hopeful a friend will help lend him the money to make repairs, otherwise he will have to give it back to the bank.

He tells News 18 he plans to contact both the Indiana Department of Insurance to file a complaint and an attorney.

Messages left Wednesday with Gephart’s agent Kevin Copas have still not been returned, along with another message left Friday evening. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
