Commissioners hope rezoning has a domino effect

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Tippecanoe County Commissioners hope a rezone will cause a domino effect near the new U.S. 231 corridor.

Commissioners approved the rezone of 1.8 acres to general business on Sagamore Parkway, across the street from Menards and Meijer.

Commissioner David Byers said the plan is for a 10,000-square-foot strip mall. Right now, older homes sit on the lot. Byers hopes this will start a trend of smart planning out near the corridor.

“Growth is coming. We know it is,” Byers said. “Hopefully, we are smart in our planning in how things are being laid out. Maybe this will start a domino effect because I know there are a lot of out lots on the road there at Meijer and Menards.”

Petitioner Shane O’Malley has received a letter of intent from Subway Restaurants to put a store in the development. O’Malley will also put one of his own offices in the building. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
