Maintaining momentum is key to success

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The No. 7 Purdue volleyball team boast its highest ever ranking after moving up a spot from No. 8 this week after a 3-0 start to begin the 2014 season.

Coach Dave Shondell’s squad posted three, three-game sweeps over South Florida, San Diego, and LSU. As pleased as coach Shondell was with their 3-0 start to the season, he didn’t walk away with the same feeling after Monday’s practice.

“The opening weekend is really climatic because your kids have worked since the end of last season to get ready for this year and you go out and you play and you play well. It can be expected to have a little bit of a let down, and we saw that in practice yesterday,” Shondell said. “We were flat as a pancake in practice, so that gave our coaching staff the opportunity to wake some people up. We have the opportunity this year to have a pretty special team this year, but we can’t waste days and we wasted a day yesterday in practice.”

The No. 8 Boilermakers (3-0) return to action on Friday when they take on UNC-Asheville at the KSU Owl Invitational in Kennesaw, Georgia.
