Artist’s portrait of a politician to hang in the House of Representatives

Steve Buyer Portrait

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A local artist’s painting will hang in our nation’s capital for many years to come.

Lorie Amick began work on a portrait of former U.S. Rep. Steve Buyer in April. She said she did extensive drawings and a black and white under painting before adding the final colors.

The 36-by-48 painting is larger than most work Amick does. This piece of art will find its home in the permanent collection of the House of Representatives.

“I’m starting to get comfortable and not nervous. The hard part was being nervous about whether or not I could get the painting to the point where I was satisfied,” said Amick. “I’m starting to get comfortable with the fact that I accomplished what I wanted to.”

The portrait, which was paid for by a private historical society, will be dedicated in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday afternoon. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
