WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Approximately 1,800 people ran or walked for a good cause Saturday on Purdue’s campus.

The ninth annual Purdue Challenge 5K started and finished Saturday morning at Ross Ade stadium.

All of the proceeds benefit the Purdue Center for Cancer Research.

Last year, the race raised over $100,000 for cancer research.

Honorary Chair and Purdue Football head coach Darrell Hazell says the community has played a big role.

“It’s our job as a community to try to make a difference and the people in this community have done a fabulous job of getting out here and representing,” said Hazell.

Since the race began, more than $600,000 have been raised.

The overall male finisher was Josh Puccinell of Fishers, while the overall female finisher was Leah Sandler of West Lafayette.
