LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The 2016 Hunger Hike is less than a month away and fundraisers are close to reaching their goal of $120,000.
The hike is a two-day event with a 5K run on Saturday, Sept. 17, followed by a 3K walk on Sunday, Sept. 18, in downtown Lafayette. The event helps buy food for area food banks.
Purdue women’s basketball coach Sharon Versyp, along with Purdue rowing coach David Kucik are honorary co-chairs this year.
Versyp said the Hunger Hike makes a big impact in the community.
“I think with hunger, it affects each and every one of us,” Versyp said. “Whether it’s nutrition, or whether it’s giving back in canned foods or giving resources in order to make this happen.”
Versyp has been involved with Hunger Hike for more than 10 years. Each year she is accompanied by many women’s basketball team members. To donate or volunteer for this year’s hike, click here.
