LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – As Civic Theatre kicks off the season, it’s doing it in a big way with “44 Plays for 44 Presidents,” a chronological journey from George Washington to Barack Obama.
But as actress Rachel Wallace explained to News 18 This Morning, don’t expect to see any powdered wigs. “We’re not trying to impersonate or portray any of the presidents in a classic sense…We’re taking the characters that are written, and there is no fourth wall so to speak. The audience is always aware of what is going on,” said Wallace.
Director Steven Koehler explained the reasoning behind picking “44 Plays for 44 Presidents” as the opener. “We know when we were selecting our season last fall that we were in the middle of a historically strange election cycle, so we decided we wanted to do something that paid tribute to that.”
Koehler also said, “It’s two hours of American history. We handle all 43 men that have been those 44 presidents. There’s also a ‘choose your own play’ to see the possible 45th president as well.”
“44 Plays for 44 Presidents” opens Friday, Sept. 16 and ends on Saturday, Oct. 1. Show times are for every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on those dates and in between and are usually 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2: 30 p.m. on Sundays.
You can call 765-423-7529 or go to Civic’s website to buy tickets. Tickets are $19 for adults, $16 for adults 65 years and older and $11 for youth 18 and under.
