LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — McCutcheon High School is dealing with safety concerns on the home side bleachers at its football field.
Mavericks Athletic Director Ryan Walden said the bleachers are inspected every summer. However, a concern was brought to his attention after the school’s last home game. Walden asked an engineering firm to inspect the bleachers again.
The firm recommended hiring a company to provide additional supports to ensure safety. As a result, the home bleachers will not be available for Friday’s game against Logansport.
Walden says alternative arrangements have been made for fans planning to attend.
“We’re going to provide some portable bleachers in our end zones,” Walden said. “We’re going to try to use 100 percent of our visiting side bleachers, depending on the size of crowd Logansport brings tomorrow night. We’ve encouraged our fans to bring some lawn chairs.”
Walden says although the situation is not ideal, it’s his hope that Friday’s game will be the only home game affected. The goal is to have the additional supports in place by the Mavericks’ next home game on Oct. 7.
