WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Lafayette Urban Ministry is celebrating the naturalization of one of its clients Friday.
Brazilian native Daleth Assad became an American citizen along with 98 others from all over the state Friday afternoon.
Since opening in 2014, the LUM Immigration Clinic and Citizenship class have helped 10 people achieve U.S. citizenship, some even came back to volunteer at LUM.
Officials said the goal of the clinic is to help welcome people to the community.
“It kind of comes at the heels of our second anniversary, and we’ve made a lot of strides in the past and to have another person go through our program and to naturalize is very exciting for us,” said Susan Brouillette, director of LUM’s Immigration Program.
Friday’s ceremony in Burtsfield Auditorium in West Lafayette is Greater Lafayette’s only naturalization ceremony this year.
