HUNTINGTON, Ind. (AP) — State officials say more than $1 million will go to Huntington County in northeastern Indiana to pay for trail development.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says the money for the Little River Trail comes from the state’s Regional Cities Initiative. The program gives money to proposals that encourage counties and cities to collaborate on regional development projects. The Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority recommended the trails project for funding.

State officials say the project will have more than three-quarters of a mile of trails for pedestrians and cyclists, connecting downtown Huntington with a regional trail network along the Little River.

The project also will include streetscape improvements, a pavilion and a rest area.
