LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — People packed Riehle Plaza Sunday afternoon to participate in a walk that helps combat a problem in Tippecanoe County.

The Hunger Hike is split up into two events. The 5K run took place Saturday, and the walk was held on Sunday.

The goal of the event is to make a difference in the fight against hunger.

The event takes participants along a scenic route of the Wabash River.

Organizers say it’s a great way to help a local organization get the tools needed to fix the problem.

“I think it’s important for all of us to help those who are in need,” Food Finders Food Bank president Katy Bunder said. “I think we have a stronger community when we are helping those in need.”

All proceeds support the Lafayette Urban Ministry, Food Finders Food Bank and the St. Thomas Aquinas Center’s Haitian Ministry.
