LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — New public art in downtown Lafayette was unveiled Monday afternoon at the County Parking Garage on Columbia Street.
It was part of the Downtown Park-Art Grill and Chill Fundraiser to benefit the United Way. Attendees ate lunch and took in a bird’s-eye view of Greater Lafayette. The garage now has permanent picnic tables next to the art to entice people use the top level on a daily basis.
Mural artist Linette Bledsoe said the new space allows people to relax and take in the sights.
“We always have places to go. There’s so many responsibilities,” said Bledsoe. “To just be able to sit back and look at a piece of art, whether it’s on your wall or in a public space like this, it’s just great.”
The murals are entitled “Always in Motion” to reflect people’s hectic lives.
“Our lives are so busy. We’re always in motion,” Bledsoe said. “I just wanted to give people that are doing something with a purpose to be here something nice to look at.”
Bledsoe is based in Indianapolis, but says she loves what this area is doing with public art and looks forward to future projects locally.
