TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Family and friends gathered to honor a man who died in June while in jail.
Joe McClimans died in the Tippecanoe County Jail of a heart attack.
Those close to Joe gathered outside of the VFW Saturday to remember him. They held a remembrance vigil to help raise health rights awareness in the county jails.
Joe’s mother, Claudine McClimans, said she hopes the vigil is a step in the right direction for better medical care in jails.
“Even prisoners deserve medical care,” said Claudine McClimans. “That’s what we are here for, just to bring awareness that we need to all come together and make sure the people get medical care when they need it.”
Joe McClimans was booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail on theft charges just about a week before his death.
