WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Plans for a 10-story apartment complex that will tower over West Lafayette’s downtown area move forward.
The West Lafayette City Council unanimously approved rezoning for The Hub Monday night. It will be built at Wood and Pierce streets with 10 stories, 600 beds and levels of parking.
However, business owners at the meeting were concerned there wouldn’t be enough spots for the large building.
Mayor John Dennis said the city has a parking standard and this project meets it. He said data shows a trend happening not just in West Lafayette.
“There’s a trend now for students not coming to campus with cars and utilizing bikes, their legs and public transportation to get around,” Dennis said. “And that’s a trend that’s occurring all over the country.”
Developers said there is retail space available on the ground level. That space can also convert into townhouses, whichever is needed.
