LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — If you’ve grown bored of your daily walk with your dog, perhaps you need a change of scenery. Lafayette Parks and Recreation invites you and your pooch to the Tails on the Trails weekly dog walking series.
News 18 This Morning featured an interview previewing the event on its Wednesday newscast.
“It’s a pet-friendly walking series aimed at promoting healthy living for community members in Lafayette,” explained Emily Butler, assistant manager of the McAllister Recreation Center. “It also provides an opportunity to explore the park’s trail system, and the resources parks and trails offer here in town that people may not know about.”
Every Thursday in October, the Tails on Trails walking series will take participants and their dogs to a different park in Greater Lafayette.
“Usually, we have [Tails on the Trails] in the summer, but we’ve noticed it’s a little hot for everyone involved including the pets, so we’re having it in the fall this year,” said Butler.
The series kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 7, at Murdock Park. The next date will be Thursday, Oct. 13, at Columbian Park. The following date will be Thursday, Oct. 20, at Armstrong Park. The final date will be Thursday, Oct. 27, at Munger Park, and pet owners are encouraged to dress up their dogs in costume on that date.
“If you’d like to participate, the dogs dress up in costumes and have a costume contest,” said Butler. “There will also be a photographer on site to take photos of the dogs.”
Each walking session will be from 6-7 p.m.
All pets must remain on a leash during these events. Owners must provide written proof of rabies vaccination for their pets – a vet certificate or city registration receipt is acceptable. Owners must pick up after their pets.
