WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) — Purdue junior Linn Andersson was named Co-Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after an outstanding performance at the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Monday and Tuesday. Andersson tied for fourth place, individually, and helped lead the Boilermakers to a sixth-place team finish in one of the nation’s most impressive tournament fields.
Andersson tied a career-best score for 18 holes in the second round at Windy City, posting a three-under, 69, draining five birdies in the round and matching the top individual score for the session. She also set a new career-high for 54 holes, finishing at four-under, 212, and matching the 19th-best 54-hole tournament score in Purdue women’s golf history. Matching senior teammate August Kim at four-under, the pair gave the Boilermakers their first back-to-back top-10 individual finishes for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Andersson, Kim and junior Marta Martin all finished in the top-10 at the Minnesota Invitational and Andersson and Kim backed it up this week.
In a field that featured eight of the top-20 teams in the nation, 11 of the top-50 and the defending NCAA Runners-Up, the Boilermakers played very consistent (291-290-292=873) and edged out Big Ten rivals Northwestern and Ohio State for sixth place. The team score is the No. 20 all-time mark for 54 holes at Purdue.
Andersson shares the honor with Elodie Van Dievoet of Michigan, who shot five-under, 211, and tied for eighth at the Cougar Classic. Andersson is the first Boilermaker to earn Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week honors since Anna Appert Lund secured the honor on April, 13, 2016.
The Boilermakers return to action Oct. 28 at the Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall.
