Breast cancer survivors recognized before football game

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) — Breast cancer survivors were recognized Friday night before the Twin Lakes football game.

It was part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A group of women who fought the disease received a standing ovation as they made their way to the field.

They wore special jerseys the players normally wear during the month of October and participated in the coin toss. After the toss, they released pink balloons.

They all agree — having a good support system is key.

“Whether it be a spouse, whether it be a friend, whether it be another person who has gone through it with you, the greatest advice I could say, I think, is find as much as you can to laugh about,” breast cancer survivor Betty Kelly said.

The survivors encouraged other women to have regular breast cancer screenings.
