TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — More than a dozen Tippecanoe volunteer firefighters completed live fire training Saturday.
The firefighters, who came from different agencies and counties, are a part of the Indiana Fire and Public Safety academies.
Firefighters used the skills and knowledge learned from the previous weeks leading up to Saturday’s burn.
Participants were put through various situations such as opening the roof on a home, forcing entry on a door and navigating a smoke-filled room.
“We’ve got relatively small fires going, more smoke than fire,” participant Emily Toler said. “It’s good training, but it’s still hot and it’s exhausting.”
Saturday’s training was also a part of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security program.
