LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Some local veterans are one step closer to getting a trip of a lifetime, thanks to an event aimed at supporting the annual Lafayette Honor Flight.

The first Honor Flight Ride took participants on a cruise around town Sunday.

The ride was set up to raise money to send local veterans on the Honor Flight — an all-expenses-paid flight to Washington, D.C.

Organizer Cindy Troxell said she hopes it gives every veteran the chance to make the trip.

“It’s important to support our veterans,” said Troxell. “Our past veterans and our veterans that are serving now to do whatever we can for them.”

The event also had a raffle and door prizes for all who participated.

The next Honor Flight is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24.
