LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Long Center in downtown Lafayette is known for hosting a variety of different events, and Sunday was no different.

Seven young women took the stage Sunday afternoon to compete in this year’s Distinguished Young Women Pageant.

The contestants are seniors in high school competing for scholarships to help them with college expenses.

Different competitions on stage helped decide the winner.

This year’s Tippecanoe County Distinguished Young Women Pageant winner Anne Smith said she is looking forward to representing the county and being a role model for other people.

“I feel really honored,” said Smith. “I’m really excited to see what’s in the future. I’m also mostly a little overwhelmed.”

Smith will be doing work around the county to help promote the Be Your Best Self program.

She will compete in the State Distinguished Young Women Pageant held in Kokomo in February 2017.
