TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The Indiana Bicentennial torch was carried through Newton and Benton counties Tuesday.
In Benton County, the relay started at Earl Park and ended in Otterbein Tuesday afternoon. The event kicked off at 4:30 p.m., and the extinguishing ceremony was at 7 p.m.
The torch was passed off to more than 20 nominated torchbearers.
Benton County resident Mary Gardener is 90 years old and said it was an honor to carry the torch.
“[I am] proud to be chosen and humbled too,” said Gardener. “Think of all the nice, good people that live in this county and to be chosen as one is such an honor.”
The torch will be carried through Tippecanoe, Warren and Fountain counties Wednesday.
