Parts of new sound barrier wall along I-65 get taken down

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — After only being up for a few months, some sections of a new sound barrier wall along Interstate 65 had to come down Tuesday.

The wall extends to Eisenhower Road in Tippecanoe County. It’s part of the project to make I-65 three lanes in each direction throughout the Lafayette area.

A concerned resident notified News 18 when he saw construction crews removing part of the wall.

According to Debbie Calder, a spokeswoman for INDOT, the contractor made an error during installation.

“It was just a mistake, or I guess, an error by the contractor. The grade was incorrect, so we are having them fix that,” Calder said.

Calder said the pieces will be replaced within the next couple of days.

This wall is one of four slated for the interstate expansion.
