JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Indiana State Police are looking for a driver of a semitrailer after a fatal hit and run on Interstate 65 in Jasper County Monday.

Just before 11 a.m. Monday, investigators said 30-year-old Nika Trippi of Lombard, Illinois, had car trouble when she pulled over her SUV on the shoulder of I-65 South, near the Fair Oaks Exit.

Troopers were told as soon as Trippi stepped out of the vehicle and shut her door, she was hit by a passing semi.

The Jasper County coroner pronounced Trippi dead at the scene of massive blunt force trauma.

State police said the semi never stopped and continued south on the interstate.

Trippi’s mother and her two children were inside the SUV, but were not injured. The SUV was pulled well off the roadway and sustained no damage.

A witness described the semi as a gray, older model Freightliner pulling a gray enclosed box trailer.

State police are asking anyone with information to call the Lowell Post at 219-696-6242.
