Newton County man sentenced for bank fraud

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A former Newton County banker is sentenced to more than six years in prison, following an investigation into bank fraud.

According to court documents, 46-year-old Mark Warne of Brook, Indiana, devised a scheme to defraud Community State Bank, where he was president.

Prosecutors said he caused the bank to issue more than $6 million in fraudulent loans.

On Thursday, Warne was sentenced to 78 months in prison and two years supervised release. He must also pay more than $3.4 million in restitution.

Warne is expected to begin his prison sentence in December.
