RUSSIAVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Russiaville Police Department had to say goodbye to a K-9 officer.

Kayos, an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois, had to be put down around 2 p.m. Thursday.

As News 18 reported in early October, Kayos was fighting a tumor in his intestine. The department K-9 fund was almost empty because of medical bills, and a GoFundMe account had raised more than $4,000 to help.

Russiaville Police Department is honoring Kayos’ contributions with a funeral procession Thursday evening.
