LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — It’s that time of the year again – when we have to say goodbye to our furry friends at the Columbian Park Zoo.
The zoo closed its doors for the season Saturday at 4:30 p.m. If you want the chance to see the critters again before next year, all hope is not lost.
The zoo will open again Oct. 26-28 for its annual Halloween-themed event known as Boo at the Zoo. The zoo will open on those three days from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.
On-site classes and birthday parties will be available during the winter months.
Zookeepers say the zoo closes around this time for a few reasons.
“Some of our animals are from climates that are a little bit warmer,” zookeeper Leanne McEvoy said. “We typically keep a lot of them indoors for the winter months. It also allows us time to kind of prepare for the next spring, do exhibit redesign.”
The zoo will reopen at the end of April 2017.
