CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The Clinton County YMCA is keeping busy — preparing thousands of meals for children throughout the community.
Eighty percent of students at Frankfort schools qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Because the schools have such a high rate, any child in the community is eligible to receive a free meal from the YMCA – no questions asked.
Right now, the YMCA is serving 6,000 meals a month and are distributed at schools, after-school programs and community parks.
Food services director Melody Knox said the program is funded by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.
“As we serve our community, we’re very proud to be able to do this and to help these kids and families,” Knox said. “So, it’s very humbling.”
Knox said there are plans to possibly roll out mobile meal distribution sites next summer.
