TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office is welcoming two new deputies to its force.

Benjamin North and Travis Butts were sworn in during a ceremony at the sheriff’s office Monday morning.

Deputy North is an Attica High School graduate and has been a Tippecanoe County Corrections officer for the last two years.

Deputy Butts is a 20-year Marine veteran and former owner of the Tri-N-Run sporting goods store. He said he’s looking forward to this new chapter in his life.

“In dealing with the sheriff’s office, in the process of this, I’ve come across a lot of professionals and a lot of good people,” Butts said. “Everybody just impressed me along the way. I just felt right when they offered me the position.”

North said it’s nice to serve in the area he grew up.

“It was important to me to work someplace — to find a law enforcement job someplace — local. Someplace within the community where my wife and I have decided to stay in,” North said.

Butts and North are heading to Plainfield, Indiana for 15 weeks of academy training. Their official duties will begin in February.
