LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Pastor Charles Walter is opening a baby pantry at Second Baptist Church to help out local families.

“I wanted to do something that was somewhat different than maybe other organizations are doing,” said Walter.

With donations from church members they’re supplying diapers, baby wipes and much more for free. There are newborn to size five diapers.

“If you’re a resident of Tippecanoe County and you need some baby items, then you can come here and we’ll give those to you,” Walter said.

The pantry is open to parents or the baby’s caregiver the first Saturday and third Tuesday of every month. You have to show photo ID to prove you live in the area.

The church is located at 2925 S. 18th St. and you can come to the pantry once a month.

“We always look to do things for the community because we believe this: that God wants us to take care of the least, the lonely, and the less fortunate,” said Walter.

He said they will stay open as long as people have a need for the pantry.

“And so our goal at Second Baptist Church is to let people know that we actually care about you and we’re looking out for your needs,” Walter said. “And so that’s what birthed this whole baby pantry movement.”

The baby pantry is currently accepting volunteers and donations. For more information on how you can get involved, contact Cynthia Gamble at sbcbabypantry@sbclafayette.com.
