UPDATE: West Lafayette dispatch confirms as of 7 p.m. Tuesday the gas has been turned off and residents are cleared to return to their homes. Original story below:
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — West Lafayette police and fire departments are on scene of a gas leak in the 100 block of Pierce Street.
According to the West Lafayette Police Department, a crew working in the area accidentally struck the gas line around 4:10 pm.
Pierce Street is closed between State and Wood Streets until further notice.
Officials have evacuated Rawls Hall and surrounding homes and businesses.
Vectren is on site and working to fix the leak.
No injuries have been reported.
