WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A new playground is now complete at a West Lafayette park.
The second and final stage for the playground at Cumberland Park was unveiled Tuesday night. The new additions include swings and a climber.
The Kiwanis Club of Lafayette started fundraising for the project after a member gave an anonymous gift. The group has been working since 2014 to gather contributions through about 13 different grants.
Organizers said 20,000 kids use the park every year, so working to install a playground was long overdue.
“So many meetings and so many phone calls — my file is about 4 inches thick and it’s just a great feeling. The greatest feeling is watching these kids play,” said Jim Hopf, project chair.
The first stage was dedicated in June.
The total cost for the playground came in around $70,000.
