TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A juvenile was placed back in custody Thursday evening after breaking out the back window of transport vehicle and fleeing on foot.
It happened around 4:15 p.m. at the Tippecanoe County Jail.
Investigators said the juvenile was being transported to Kokomo by correction staff of the Kinsey Youth Center when the vehicle stopped at the jail to pick up another passenger. That’s when the juvenile used his ankle cuffs to smash the back windshield.
He took off towards the old Lafayette Municipal Golf Course.
Sheriff’s deputies, along with the West Lafayette and Lafayette police departments, were called in to help search. He was located about 30 minutes later near the Wabash River.
News 18 was not informed as to why the juvenile was initially in custody.
