LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — One hundred years have passed since the Kiwanis Club came to Lafayette.
The club celebrated its 100 birthday at the Trails Thursday night.
The club helps local kids through various organizations. For example, the club just donated an education station to the Columbian Park Zoo and built a new playground at Cumberland Park.
Roy Johnson has been a member since 1972. He said it’s impressive the club has been able to maintain its membership throughout the years.
“Our club was chartered as just the second in the state of Indiana and the 20th in the whole world, so it was one of the very first Kiwanis Clubs to get started,” said Johnson. “It has been a very strong club in the community for the past 100 years.”
Johnson believes the club will continue on for another 100 years.
