WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) — Freshman guard Carsen Edwards scored 28 points to lead all scorers in Purdue’s intrasquad scrimmage Saturday at Mackey Arena.
The Boilermakers played two, 20-minute halves and nine of the 10 players saw 40 minutes of action during the day.
Edwards, a freshman from Atascocita, Texas, went 10-of-19 from the field and 4-of-10 from long distance to score 28 points with five rebounds and four assists. He scored 15 of his team’s 34 points during the second session.
Basil Smotherman, Vincent Edwards and Caleb Swanigan all scored 18 points for the Boilermakers. Edwards added 11 rebounds and two assists, while Swanigan contributed 10 rebounds and five assists. Smotherman chipped in with four rebounds and four steals.
P.J. Thompson added 15 points and four rebounds, while Isaac Haas and Spike Albrecht scored 14 points each. Haas grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds with three assists and Albrecht contributed eight rebounds.
As a team, Purdue was 55-of-126 (.437) from the field, 14-of-49 (.286) from long distance and 16-of-23 (.696) from the free throw line. Purdue had just 20 turnovers during the scrimmage while dishing out 35 assists. Dakota Mathias led Purdue with seven assists.
Purdue’s next public appearance will be its lone exhibition game of the season, coming Nov. 1, against Southern Indiana at 7 p.m. ET in Mackey Arena. For tickets, call 800.49SPORT.
