WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A man was arrested Saturday morning after crashing a car into an unmarked police vehicle near Purdue University’s campus.

West Lafayette Police Lt. Kevin Flynn was inside the unmarked car when the crash occurred.

Flynn said he was in the right-turn lane on Northwestern Avenue – in front of Greyhouse Coffee & Supply Co. – when a driver illegally turned onto Northwestern Avenue from West State Street.

After turning into one-way traffic, the car struck the unmarked cruiser head-on. In a possible attempt to leave the scene, the car’s driver — 21-year-old Zachary Austin — put the car in reverse before striking another vehicle.

No one was injured in either crash.

Austin was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail and booked on charges of operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
