WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Residents took a trip to India Sunday without having to leave Indiana.

The Indian Women’s Association hosted its seventh annual Celebration of India at Purdue University. The event raises money for the YWCA and the International Research Center for Women.

Traditional Indian food, drinks and jewelry were on-hand for people to enjoy.

By bringing in traditional entertainment from all across the world, organizers hope the community was able to learn about the culture.

“We might not be able to showcase entire India but just what we are,” said West Lafayette resident Sudha Rani. “What our people represent, our values are, what we are going to try to tell you.”

The event took place at the Memorial Mall and Loeb Playhouse from 2-8:30 p.m.
