WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — It’s been an eye-opening art project two years in the making.
Now, a mosaic mural at Klondike Elementary is complete. With the help of local artist Linda Vanderkolk, students created “Ice Pie,” which is a play on words of I-Spy.
The students cut out pictures from old magazines and made small spy glass pieces. Vanderkolk then began installing the pieces of glass in a spiral art installation in the school last spring.
She hopes that the mosaic can give students a better idea of the natural world around them.
“You know, they probably care about parts of nature very much,” said Vanderkolk. “Maybe they have an animal or maybe they have flowers in their yards. … The whole world thinking about the whole world is something we should care for.”
The mosaic also has a section at the bottom dedicated to Indiana. It includes a bicentennial piece commemorating the mural was a Bicentennial Legacy Art Project.
