WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – From now until Dec. 10, Purdue Galleries will host two exhibits celebrating the works of artists Robert Pruitt and Jean Koeller.
“Robert Pruitt is a Texas artist who works on really large scale drawings,” explained gallery director Craig Martin. “They [the art pieces] explore black culture and black identity through a number of different sources. He draws family and friends and then incorporates elements of hip-hop, comic book and even science fiction.”
“Robert Pruitt: Escape Velocity” will run until Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center at Purdue University.
The other exhibit, “Jean Koeller: Under the Sky,” is a celebration of landscape.
“She [Jean Koeller] works regularly in the outdoors,” said Martin. “She makes almost daily studies of the landscape throughout her daily environment and does extensive research with color mixing and color preparation.”
That exhibit runs at the Fountain Gallery at 330 Main St. in downtown Lafayette.
There will also be a reception for each exhibit. On Nov. 10 at the Ringel Gallery, there will be a reception for the Robert Pruitt exhibit from 5:30-7 p.m. with comments from the artist himself. The Jean Koeller exhibit is also on Nov. 10, but it will be held at the Fountain Gallery from 5:30-7 p.m.
