LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A race event on Saturday will help dozens of sled dogs. Sled dogs are breeds like huskies, Alaskan malamutes and samoyeds, and the I Run 4 a Sled Dog event benefits them.
LeAnne Williams is the race coordinator and stopped by News 18 This Morning along with her dog Kylie.
“One hundred percent of the profits go to Northern Lights Sled Dog rescue where Kylie and two of her siblings have come from over the years,” said Williams. “This year, we added a 10K option. Runners can come out and do a 10K, 5K run or 1-mile walk.”
There will also be vendors, a silent auction and and even a performance by a dance troupe.
Williams said Northern Lights is based out of Indianapolis and takes in retired sled dogs. The money raised goes toward pets’ medical fees, food and toys.
The race will be at McAllister Park off of N. Ninth Street in Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 29. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The race is at 9:30 a.m. All registration costs $25. You can register at the race or online.
Dogs are welcome, but they must be on a leash.
