WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — There’s a new place in town to grab a beer – and it’s located on Purdue University’s campus.
The 1869 Tap Room opened in the Purdue Memorial Union during homecoming weekend. It’s named for the year the university was established.
You can find it on the ground floor of the Union, close to Pappy’s Sweet Shop.
The tap room also features an educational display about fermentation science and hops production.
“When we start to talk about biochemical pathways, plate heat exchangers and thermodynamics – people are not so interested. But when it’s over a beer, it’s a lot more fun,” said Brian Farkas, the head of the Department of Food Science.
The 1869 Tap Room is open through the rest of football season from 4:30-9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. It will also be open two hours before kickoff when Purdue plays at home.
