LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A group of kids from a Lafayette neighborhood put their pumpkin-carving skills to the test Friday evening.
The Hartford Hub is a new community outreach facility that serves the Lincoln Neighborhood.
Kids were able to carve pumpkins with help from a group of Purdue University students in the EPICS program. Through that program, students partner with community organizations.
The students were the ones who came up with the idea to carve pumpkins, knowing the Hartford Hub is a place for get kids to get involved.
“We asked people when we were coming down here, ‘What do you guys need? What would you like to see here?'” said Stefan Nitzschke, a pastor with North End Ministries. “The majority of the neighbors were saying, ‘We just need a safe place to have our kids play around.’ That’s what the park is here for; that’s what the Hub is here for.”
The Hartford Hub will have a Trunk-or-Treat on Monday from 6-8 p.m. It’s located on the corner of North Sixth and Hartford streets.
