Celebrate Indiana’s musical diversity with LSO during the ‘200 Candles’ celebration

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — There’s a little less than two months left in Indiana’s bicentennial year, and Lafayette Symphony Orchestra will celebrate it during its 200 Candles: A Hoosier Birthday Bash performance on Saturday.

“We’re approaching this like a birthday party and trying to represent everything Indiana has to offer from a musical standpoint,” said LSO executive director Sara Mummey.

The songs featured during the performance will feature works from composers and musicians from Indiana such as Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, Michael Jackson, John Mellencamp and Guns ‘n Roses.

“The Mellencamp song is going to be really cool. We’re going to be doing ‘Rain on the Scarecrow,'” said Mummey. “We actually had it arranged for the orchestra and Fergus Daly Band. So if there are any local Fergus Daly Band fans out there, it’s going to be a really great presentation.”

Mummey promised a party-like atmosphere with cupcakes and other festivities.

You can catch 200 Candles: A Hoosier Birthday Bash on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Center in downtown Lafayette. Tickets are available online or by calling 765-742-5664, ext. 20.
