KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A woman was arrested early Thursday morning after shooting her husband twice.

Police say Erica Fortson woke up to the sound of her father calling for help.

She found her father, Eric Fortson, slumped over the hood of his car, which was parked in front of their residence in the Kokomo Regency Trailer Park on East 200 South.

He told his daughter to call 911 because his wife, Laura Fortson, had shot him.

While Erica Fortson was calling 911, Laura Fortson reappeared and shot her husband again. Then she left in a white Pontiac.

An officer arriving at the scene saw the Pontiac leave the residence at a high rate of speed. He attempted to pull Laura Fortson over, but she led him on a high-speed chase.

The chase went through Howard County and stopped in northern Miami County when stop sticks were placed on the road.

Laura Fortson was taken into custody with no further incident. She faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.

Eric Fortson’s condition is unknown at this time.
