LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — For the past several weeks, coats and other winter accessories have been collected in the Greater Lafayette area, and now items were distributed to families in need.
WLFI-TV, the Salvation Army and other area businesses teamed up to collect coats for kids in need this winter. Saturday was Distribution Day for the annual Coats for Kids Drive.
Together with the help of sponsors and the community, the event helped distribute more than 1,000 coats to those in need.
Salvation Army Lt. Jessica Dahl said as the event grows, the need grows along with it.
“The event itself has grown, but the need has grown along with it,” Dahl said. “So the community has definitely responded in a really awesome manner to meet the growing need.”
Dahl said families that could not make it to Saturday’s event can stop by the Salvation Army office while supplies last.
Hats, gloves, scarves and shoes were also available. The event also provided coats to adults.
