LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A local conservation group is recognizing a Lafayette company for its years of environmental stewardship.

Tree Lafayette awarded Evonik Corporation Tippecanoe Laboratories with the 2016 Environmental Award.

The group is highlighting Evonik’s partnership with WLFI-TV through its Living Green with 18 campaign. The company also partners with Purdue University to study hardwood tree regeneration in the company’ wildlife habitat.

Tippecanoe Lab’s Director of Environmental Safety Teresa Reksel said her company understands the importance being green.

“We live in this community too. Clearly, we want keep it safe and protect the environment for us, our children and their children,” Reksel said.

She’s also aware of the impact industry has on the surrounding wildlife.

“We want to be a good neighbor,” said Reksel. “It’s important to us that we’ve got a good reputation in the community. People can look to Evonik and know that they can trust we are doing the right thing.”

Since 2010, Evonik has recycled more than 10 million pounds of paper, aluminum cans and wood from its Lafayette facility.

Tree Lafayette was established in 1993 and has planted more than 1,000 trees in the Greater Lafayette area.
