LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) — A long-standing Logansport factory will soon be no more than a pile of rubble.

Located just north of downtown, the former Exide battery plant has sat vacant for more than 30 years.

Just recently, Exide officials reached out to the city, expressing their intentions to demolish the building.

Mayor Dave Kitchell said the company plans on requesting a demolition permit in the next few weeks.

He said leveling the building will be a positive move, not only for the surrounding neighborhoods but for the industrial sector of the city, as well.

“Given the location and the planning and zoning that we have in effect here, the future of this area is much better now that this is coming down, and we can have a chance to do something else with it,” Kitchell said.

If all goes as expected, Kitchell said the demolition should take place next spring.
