LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — It was a dream come true for one Lafayette citizen who has a love for trains.
Fifty-four-year-old Bruce Kressel is a resident at Signature Healthcare in Lafayette.
A lifelong dream for Kressel was to see a train in person. His eyesight is failing, and staff at Signature Healthcare wanted to make his dream a reality.
Steph Romig, the nursing home’s rehabilitation services manager, reached out to The Reamer Club at Purdue to help make it happen.
Kressel and other residents got a chance to cruise in the Boilermaker Special – and they loved every minute of it. Romig said she’s thankful she could help with Kressel’s wish.
“We all have a heart and we all need to find joy in the world,” Romig said. “This is the one thing that he finds joy in. Part of the work that we do here is trying to provide a purpose.”
To make it official, Kressel was also given a conductor’s hat. The hat has traveled to all Purdue football games this year.
